October 2011 Starlight Tower Express Newsletter in St Pete Beach Pinellas County Florida

Only six more weeks of hurricane season remain,
and so far all is quiet on our western front. This lovely picture of Starlight was taken by George Wolff, (Apt. 208) in September. The western sky was lit with a fiery sunset, painting the building this shade of pink; and the moon, not to be outdone by the sun, is peeking over our shoulder as if to say, “Now it’s my turn!”

There isn’t a lot of news in this issue....., but what we do have is very important because it involves changing daily routines, possibly travel plans and decisions on “what do we do, and where should we go.”

Yes, the schedule for the walkway work has finally been issued.
  • On Monday, November 7th, CPS will have a crew at Starlight to wash and prepare the walkway surfaces for the new application.
  • On Tuesday, November 8th, the recoating application will start. As we were notified earlier, we will not be able to use the walkways for three days, starting at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 8th.
  • On Friday, November 11th we should be able to once again walk on them (provided there has not been bad weather which could extend the project an extra day). The owners and residents will need to vacate all of the units (except the ground floor apartments) for those three days unless they choose to "stay put" in their apartment with no egress or ingress. So here it is again:

So here it is again:
Monday 11/7 Walkways washed and prepped
Tuesday 11/8 Beginning 8 a.m. today – No access to walkways
Wednesday 11/9 No access
Thursday 11/10 No access
Friday 11/12 Walkways accessible, unless bad weather delays project by a day

The Progress Energy workman in the cherry-picker is installing a light
which will shine into our parking lot and hopefully cut down on the vandalism which has plagued Starlight over the summer. Cost is minimal per month.

Just when we thought all the work on the beach and groins was finished, along came some more trucks, digging equipment and personnel from Gator Dredging. They worked on the groins and removed from the Gulf floor massive amounts of material from the old temporary structures, left behind when the new groins were installed.
Turns out it was quite a project, which lasted for several weeks. Now we are asked to keep an eye on the T-groins and if we notice any areas on the bags which seem to need repair or any signs of vandalism, please call the Pinellas County Beach Coordinator, Andy Squires (727) 464-4633, who will act on that information.

The "Lost Aircraft".
This is another picture George Wolff took which he sent to me. He calls it “Lost Aircraft.” If you look closely in the clouds about a third of the way up from the bottom, you’ll see the “lost” plane. George is a photo hobbyist who participates in a global project called “Clouds 365.” George says photographers from all over the world submit interesting photos with clouds as their main focus. He says living in Florida where our clouds are the best on the continent, gives him plenty to shoot on most days.
