Thank You Pat

October 18, 2008 Pat Ifft, Editor (eifft@tampabay.rr.com) Webmaster, Louisa Simos www.starlight-tower.com
 This month, perhaps
you would enjoy a kind of album of pictures, to go along with
Lynn Dopp’s excellent report on the progress of the
restoration progress.
In the first picture , (left) taken on
the fourth floor, Jeremy of CFS has just finished applying
material being used to reface the building surface, after
asbestos abatement and repair of the cracks and holes with
concrete. This will assure that the building will have a uniform
appearance after painting. The picture on the right shows a
close-up
Now we move up to the seventh floor on the east
side. Here you see Tony of CFS filling the abated and repaired
beams with concrete. And below is a view from the ground looking
up …… notice the huge number of I beams that were used to build
Starlight. No wonder she’s withstood fifty years of Mother
Nature’s whims.

(Below) How would you like this job? Here
you see Efren and Francisco (Gulfcoast employees) doing asbestos
abatement on previously identified sections to be repaired on
the “tower.”
Below you see Behman drilling holes in the
walkway on the fourth floor (overhead on the third) where
electrical conduit will run, for the cathodic protection system.

And below are two CFS men finishing work on the “01” stack
on the west side.

Two ALERTS from the Board: (1) We need
keys for all the walkway storage/utility room doors so they can
be replaced/stripped/sanded/repaired/painted as the need may be.
Please carefully identify your key and send to the office asap.
And (2) If you are interested in running for the Board, please
notify our manager, Leora Pidde at Resource Property Management
(727-864-0004) or email her at
lpidde@resourcepropertymgmt.com .
Here are some notes on our fellow Starlighters:
Stan
Bryk (608) has resigned from the Board, due to other
commitments. Thanks, Stan, for your hard work. The Board will
miss you. Lee Brand (305) has been appointed to serve until the
annual meeting in February. Jackie Dickinson , owner of(801)
had major heart surgery this summer and has had a long and
difficult recovery. We hope you are back to feeling great very
soon, Jackie. Winter resident and former owner Denis O’Connor
celebrated his 80th birthday with a family gathering in Toronto.
The O’Connors will celebrate with a European trip, and will
return to Starlight in January. Many thanks to Bill Wales who
is doing a “whale” of a job cleaning out the building storage
spaces, getting rid of materials not being used. This, in
addition to all Bill does every day as a resident Board member.
And also, welcome to Starlight to Season Wales, daughter of D.D.
and Bill Wales (308). A belated welcome back to the building
to Sandy Bogden, Apt. 805. And congratulations to
George
Wolfe (208) who became an American citizen in September. George
has dual citizenship with his native Canada and the USA.
Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni, who has been an
advocate of the T-groin project has been diagnosed with cancer.
We will keep him in our prayers as he undergoes treatment.
There is a wonderful
organ concert taking place this Sunday afternoon, October 19, at
Christ United Methodist Church, 467 – 1st Avenue N. at 3 p.m. In
celebration of the International Year of the Organ, over 200
chapters of the American Guild of Organists will present
concerts at the same hour all over the country. Talented local
organists will play a concert of all kinds of music to satisfy
almost everyone’s musical taste. Concert is free and there is a
reception following in the courtyard.
 On Saturday,
October 24, you’ll have a chance to donate blood at the St.
John’s/St. Alban’s Blood Drive, held in front of St. John’s
Church Hall, 84th and Blind Pass Road, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Call Ed Ifft (367-2189) if you are able to give. Walk-ins are
always welcome.
