Summer is upon us, and life at Starlight has slowed down for most of us.
June 2012 Starlight Tower Express Newsletter in St Pete Beach Pinellas County Florida

The folks who head north until the a/c is turned off have mostly departed. And the rest of us relax, knowing that smaller crowds in restaurants and less traffic on our roads are the perks of putting up with temperatures in the low 90’s and humidity to match . The yellow groins have attracted multitudes of swimmers, transforming the beach in front of Starlight into a “water park.” On days of heavy surf, we’ve watched teen agers spend hours riding their boards and jumping into the waves.

Here are some items to bring you up to date at Starlight:

At the last Board meeting on May 17, Jim Parent, St. Pete Beach Commissioner for District 2, was present to give us some updates on city and county projects. Here are the salient points:

  •  Andy Squires, County Beach Manager, says that work to replace the temporary groins with a permanent rock structure is on schedule. Permit applications are in place and if all goes as planned, work should begin late summer/fall of 2013. The sand will come from Blind Pass. The permanent structures should hold the sand in place for longer periods. In the meantime, the temporary groins are being inspected oftener, mitigating damage earlier.

  • 5,000 sea oats will be planted on the beach Saturday, June 30.

  • The City is investigating the possibility of eliminating the St. Pete Beach Police Department and contracting with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department for police services. The City budget is showing a $1 million shortfall, and using the sheriff’s Department would save the city considerable money. The Sheriff will speak to the City Commission in chambers at City Hall on Tuesday evening, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

  • June 2012 Starlight Tower Express Newsletter in St Pete Beach Pinellas County Florida The City is investigating the possibility of changing the traffic patterns on the Gulf Blvd., 75th Avenue, Blind Pass corridors, making some areas one-way to eliminate the congestion that plagues those intersections.

  • Jim Parent’s email is jparent@stpetebeach.org

Message from LaVonne:
We’ve received a message from Diane LaVonne, our Resource Manager: “Please remind everyone that the three spaces in front of the building are for temporary loading/unloading only.
June 2012 Starlight Tower Express Newsletter in St Pete Beach Pinellas County Florida
  • Contractors are NOT to park in the Loading/Unloading spaces while they are working.

  • The City of St. Pete Beach provides parking permits for street parking for $3.00.

  • Contractor should make arrangements to park off the property and keep these spaces clear.”

Pest Control Service:
June 2012 Starlight Tower Express Newsletter in St Pete Beach Pinellas County Florida The pest control people will be on the premises this coming Monday and Tuesday, June 25 and 26.

Please make sure that the office has keys to your unit.

This service is paid for through our maintenance fees, and makes living in the subtropical climate much more pleasant.
