The very First Issue of  Starlight Express Newsletter was created by the Editor and Chief Pat Ifft on February 29, 1992 and since then is maintained and produced monthly by her for 17 years! All Starlighter's owe immense gratitude to Pat in keeping them informed with all happenings good and bad.

They say pictures are worth a thousand words. I’ve never counted the number of words in a typical Starlight Express, but decided that no matter what I write, no literary description could compete with a look at the work in progress. I wish these pictures could be in color, but the cost of color copying would be prohibitive. However, if you have internet access, you can read the Express online and our Genius Webmaster will have all the pictures in glorious color.

The picture above is a view of the fourth floor walkway, looking north to south. The workmen are removing about three inches of concrete plus the River Rock covering from all the walkways. Most of you have seen the huge dumpster parked in the 15-minute zone on our north end. It has been filled and emptied several times.

The picture above shows the depth (2 ½ inches) of the concrete being removed from the walkway.

The River Rock covering is about a half-inch thick. After it is broken up, the material is wheel barrowed down to the dumpster.
	Here’s Victor Romero, of Gulfcoast Waterproofing, who obligingly allowed me to take his picture and explained what he is doing. He has worked for his company for twelve years and expressed his admiration for the construction of our great old building. But new techniques and new materials (my words, not his) will help insure the integrity of the structure for many years to come.

So….the project continues apace. Living here is not impossible at all, although there is considerable gritty dust. And the workmen are all very accommodating and helpful.

Now on to other matters...

• The Owners meeting on May 15 saw the passing of two amendments to our documents, allowing a more convenient method of voting on proposed changes to our By-Laws and Lease Provisions.
   

• The proposal to place a fence on our seawall has gone to City Hall for Variance consideration.
   

• The Board has approved purchase of new lights for the building and grounds, to be installed after the rehab is finished.
   

• Here’s a look at a sample of the railing that will be installed on all the walkways….chalk white.

• Parking spot #16 is now assigned to Unit 703, and #21 is now assigned for Unit 106 (the guest apartment).
   

• Christy and Tim’s summer hours are 8 to 2.

Some “People” news.......

We are sorry to hear about Joan Carlock’s health problems….please keep her and Jack in your prayers.
Newlyweds Rickey and Ed Diedo will spend the summer months in Detroit.
Sue Alley and Ross Fansler are doing well in Tennessee, although Sue writes that they probably won’t be able to spend July here as in years past.
Ed and Betty Gibson have returned to Akron for the summer and Betty will fly out to Denver then on to Seattle for their granddaughter’s graduation.
Welcome to new residents Stephen Blair and Jenny Gist in Apartment 302 and George Haddad in 801.
