Note: This edition has been edited by Edel Quinn for the Board of
Directors.
As most of you know, the past few weeks have been turbulent for Starlight
Tower, for both residents and for the Board of Directors. Barbara Vecchio,
our longtime secretary, resigned suddenly on January 12. I am unable to give
the rationale for her leaving, except to say that there are many people here
who miss her.
So, where do we go from here…..where do we stand on the day-to-day operation
of Starlight Tower? The rehab project? The annual meeting? The Board…..both
present and future? The office? Our maintenance people? I will try to answer
some of the more immediate concerns.
-
Maintenance
payments: The Board has contracted with Liberte Management
Group to assume our bookkeeping functions, including all
accounts receivable, accounts payable and the payroll. From
now on, please mail your maintenance payment to following
address and make the check payable to Starlight Tower, Inc.
Please include your unit number on your check. Note:
The 2007 monthly maintenance payment schedule does not include
the $8.00 garage fee. Please add $8.00 to your maintenance
check, if applicable.

Day-to-Day
management: For the present time, Board members are
monitoring the phone, taking care of office tasks, and
overseeing the work of Christy and Tim. This is only a short
term measure, however, and the Board has begun discussions
with Liberte Management Group to determine whether an
agreement can be reached to have Liberte take over the daily
management of Starlight Tower (in addition to the
Bookkeeping). Liberte has presented the Board with a draft
agreement that is being reviewed and revised by Starlight’s
attorney. After the attorney has completed her review, the
Board will then review and discuss the terms and scope of the
contract and more details regarding the terms and scope will
then be available.
-
The Rehab
Project: The final cost figures will be given to our Board
by Karins Engineering after Wilson Kehoe, the contractor, puts
together THEIR final figures. At this time, we are awaiting
the electrical sub-contractor to make his evaluation, and
report it to Wilson Kehoe.
-
The Annual
Meeting: Please be advised that the Annual Meeting will
not be held in February. Our attorney has advised the Board
that due to an error on the ballot for election of directors
that was sent out in a previous mailing, the ballot is
invalid and the election process must be begun again and
the annual meeting re-noticed. Our documents state that the
annual meeting must be announced to shareholders 60 days
before the date of the annual meeting, and again 30 days in
advance of the meeting. Accordingly, the meeting will probably
be held sometime in April, but a precise date has not yet been
set. The people who have already volunteered to run for the
Board will remain on the ballot. In addition, anyone else who
wishes to run may add their name to the list, by calling any
current board member. The current Board will remain seated
until the election.
-
Next Board
Meeting: Thursday, February 15, 2007, 7 p.m. in the lobby.
The Board reports
that the leak in the pipe on the 8th floor walkway will be
repaired ASAP.
If you are looking for a bank loan for the upcoming assessment,
a possibility is NCB FSB, a cooperative bank in Hillsboro, Ohio
at 139 South High Street, Hillsboro, OH 45133,or online at
www.ncb.coop.
Note from maintenance: When using
the laundry, please leave the door open. If the door is closed,
condensation builds up, and causes problems with the fire alarm
system sensor.

Well, the Super Bowl is over for another year, and regardless which team you
rooted for, you have to admire Tony Dungy for being a great coach and a
great man. It was a good game, considering the miserable weather. I guess
the pro bowl will be coming up soon…..and then…..on to BASEBALL!!!!!

On Saturday, January 13, the St. Pete Beach Classic 5K – 10K Race was held,
with the more than 1,000 runners going right by Starlight on Beach Plaza.
Carol Glasscock, the owner of “Fit For Life” fitness center on 75th Avenue,
where some of us work out, was first in her age group in the 10K run. Our
own Jack Carlock (502) was second in his age group in the 5K
run. Jack is a veteran runner, cycle and swimmer, and had some heart
problems after another race. Happy to say, he is out and about and looking
great. Maggie Varnadoe and son Chris, daughter
and grandson of Ed and Pat Ifft, also ran in the 5K…..Chris’s
first time. Maggie was 6th and Chris 10th in their age groups.
Verna Murphy (405) has had some health problems which sent her
to the hospital and we’re happy to report she is feeling much better at
home.
Paul Reardon is undergoing medical treatment in New Jersey and
hopes to return to Starlight ASAP. We hope so, too, Paul. We miss you.
Nice to see Marlene and Dan Reid (201) back in residence.
Could that mean the shuffleboard tournament is coming up?
I was kind of worried when I noticed the St. Pete Beach Police Parking
Enforcement vehicle parked in front of Starlight on a couple of occasions.
Turns out, Bill Palmer (307) is working for that department
and that’s his official car.
