At this time of year, I despair of having enough material to
make reading this newsletter worthwhile. However,
I
shall dig, and see what we come up with. Of course there is
always the weather, and I believe that our summer is not as hot
as some more northern climes. Even good old Buffalo has had a
very hot summer – for which they are grateful. Autumn will come
soon enough for them. We were north in July and had occasion to
go to a local farmers’ market with our daughter. What a display.
It was a treat to see “northern” flowers, home grown cherries
and raspberries, early apples, early corn. We were hoping for
peaches, but they don’t ripen up there until late August. Yes,
we love Florida’s abundant produce, especially homegrown
strawberries in January. But sometimes we remember fondly going
to a farmers’ market on a crisp Saturday morning in October,
with an orange sea of pumpkins stretching to a sky so blue it
hurt your eyes.
What’s
new at Starlight? Well, the first bit of info concerns the City
of St. Pete Beach, which will be celebrating it’s 50th year on
the second weekend in November. The weekend will include a
Friday night (November 9) concert and barbecue at Upham Beach,
climaxed by a gigantic fireworks display. On Saturday night, the
10th, the Gala Dinner Dance will take place at the Trade Winds
Island Grand Resort; and on Sunday, there will be a Fall
Festival Family Fun Carnival at the new Community Center. The
“Starlight Express” has purchased a table of 10 for the dinner
dance. Tickets are $55/person, which includes a cocktail
reception in the Grand Palm Colonnade, with butler passed hors
d’oeuvres. There will be a cash bar. The evening should be
memorable, and since Starlight Tower is almost as old as the
city, it will be a lot of fun for us to be there. Six people
have already reserved their place at the Starlight Table. Sue
Alley and Ross Fansler were the very first from the building to
purchase their tickets. If enough people are interested, perhaps
we can fill a second table. So let us know (367-2189) and we’ll
“see you at the Ball!”
