The Easter bunny
has come and gone, the weather
is at last looking more like a Florida spring and it
is past time for this issue of the Express. A lot of
our regular winter residents have already decamped,
and if the beach renourishment goes as planned and
the forces of nature don’t intervene (read
“hurricane”), we will have a lot of sand out front
by the time they return.

Speaking of sand,
Kevin Hing
(702) Chairman of the St. Pete Beach Beach
Stewardship Committee reports: “on Tuesday, April 6,
the Pinellas County Board of Commissioners approved
the employment of
Coastal Planning and
Engineering, Inc., as the County’s
consultant to facilitate the bidding process for the
Upham Beach Renourishment/Geotube Repair
Project. The County will rely on
CPE to prepare the bid specs that will be
used to select the dredging contractors who will
renourish Upham Beach in
June-July of this
year, as well as the contractor(s) who will
repair the beach’s damaged Geo-textile T-groins.”
Kevin has started a blog….
saveoursand.blogspot.com,
which makes it easy to access information about the
beach and also Kevin’s thoughts about other issues
important to SPB residents……such as sea oats
planting, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June
19.
