Restoration
Pictures
June 15, 2008:
Fellow Starlighters I thought you might enjoy a quick progress
shot of Starlight Tower's Restoration.
The flooring workers have now cleared all of the floor surfaces,
finishing with a jackhammer concert outside apartment #208. The
smiling worker in the picture said the next step is to put on
and mold the new surface to drain water toward the street, not
toward the piping which is unable to handle the load. The lucky
residents of unit #208 actually had jackhammers in stereo as the
contractors took out their windows and cut away damaged concrete
on the west side of the building.
The removal of ceiling asbestos and stucco continues on the
fifth floor. Damage to the concrete appears to be lighter with
every floor as they move down the building. Shoring columns are
no longer needed to support the ceiling. (Heavy damage on the
upper floors required reinforcement.)
It has been a noisy, dusty time but the workers have been
friendly which I think is most comforting for resident
Starlighters.

May
22nd, 2008: Fellow Starlighters, the Restoration pictures
of our beloved Starlight Tower placed bellow
are offered courtesy of George Wolff and Gigi Guthrie of #208 for our
visual benefit. The Engineer's Report and pictures for sure were
helpful for all of us to see the damage but these color pictures
take the prize!
Quoting
some of George's remarks: "There are pictures of the renovation
which has uncovered severe damage to beams and floor plates on the
seventh, eighth, ninth, and penthouse ceilings. It’s serious and
needs shoring up at the north and south ends of the building only.
Also some stucco has been removed. The floor surfacing has been
removed and the concrete underneath has apparently escaped damage.
The problems are worst at the north and south ends and the damage is
most severe the higher you go on the building".
Thank
you very much Gigi and George on behalf of all absent Starlighters for taking the
time and sending us these pictures and please, keep them coming!
